Ocean Swirl Glitter Slime

Here’s another idea I thought was super cute for the Submerged VBS.  This is an ocean looking slime that *kids of all ages will love!  *This means the adults will be in your room playing with this!  Here’s the recipe which I got from two-daloo.com.

Ocean Swirl Glitter Slime

  1. Elmer’s Clear School Glue 5 oz.
  2. 1/2 cup liquid starch
  3. Liquid watercolors (get them here) or food coloring
  4. Glitter in vials matching the ocean colors-use half a vile for each color
  5. Tiny sea life (get them here)

  1. Dump the glue into a bowl.  Add coloring of choice and glitter and stir to combine.
  2. Add liquid starch in small increments, stirring each time to fully incorporate before adding more.  If it gets too hard to stir, knead in the starch by hand. Once the slime gets to the desired consistency-STOP.  You may not use the entire 1/2 cup.
  3. Remember-this is NOT edible and children should be supervised to make sure they don’t ingest it.

Windy is Why We Do VBS.

From the Lifeway VBS Blog:

First Baptist Church, Danville, Arkansas, almost didn’t have a Vacation Bible School in 2001.  They decided to go ahead with VBS and they had 30 children make professions of faith!

On August 30, 2001, after VBS was over, the pastor got a call to go to the local hospital.  A nine-year-old girl named Windy had run out in front of an 18-wheeler traveling through town.  She was killed instantly.  Her brother and five sisters had gathered at the hospital. What do VBS and Windy’s death have to do with each other?  Windy was one of the 30 children who prayed to receive Christ in VBS.  At Windy’s funeral, her mother and a sister professed their faith and were later baptized.

Submerged Decorating Tips

I haven’t checked this out for myself but I’ve been told you can find large coral-like the three pieces on the top of the shelf-in the pet section at Walmart.  You can spray paint them or leave them as is and use them for decoration.

You can make a submarine door handle on the cheap!  Just cut six pieces of pool noodle about 10 inches long.  Glue them to a plastic plate (the sturdier the better) and glue a plate to the opposite side.  (There should be a plate on each side of the pool noodles.)  Spray paint everything silver or the color of your choice and voila!

I know this isn’t an underwater scene but I really like the use of the rope lights on the ceiling.  I think this would make a really cool underwater look for your room!

Have A Good Day!

It’s a good day to have a good day!

The Most Important Week of the Year

Below is an excerpt taken from an article published in the 1998 The Sunday School Leader.

“What other week of the year presents the opportunity to baptize as many people as in a revival, to discover as many prospects as in a survey, to teach as much Bible as in weeks of Sunday School and to reach with credibility into the homes of as many unchurched families?”

This is why we sacrifice our time and our energy.  This is why we go home exhausted but can’t wait to come back the next day!  This is why we have sore muscles and full hearts.  This is why tears come to our eyes when we hear the children singing their hearts out to the VBS theme song.  This is why we LOVE VBS!

More Submerged Ideas

I thought this was a super cute idea for an activity in the classroom or maybe for kids who get done with their craft early.  You can find the entire blog post at powerfulmothering.com.  It’s called the Under the Sea Pretend Play Search and Find and she has print-outs and detailed instructions available.

Submerged Theme Song

Enjoy the theme song for this year’s VBS!  This has the lyrics if you want to become more familiar with the music!

Submerged Theme Song

Psalm 139:23-24

This is our Bible verse and focus for VBS 2016:

Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my concerns.  See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the everlasting way. (HCSB)

Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts.  See if there is any offensive way in me,  and lead me in the way everlasting. (NIV)

Investigate my life, O God, find out everything about me; Cross-examine and test me, get a clear picture of what I’m about; See for yourself whether I’ve done anything wrong-then guide me on the road to eternal life. (Message)

Search me (thoroughly), O God, and know my heart!  Try me and know my thoughts!  And see if there is any wicked or hurtful way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting. (Amplified)
